I liked that the hospital was public and a teaching hospital so it was easy to compare the hospital in the states, but also gave a very good impression of the difference in the two Elath care Systems. Also, the physicians/residents I worked with were WONDERFUL!

I thought my internship was great. I learned a ton of spanish, had direct patient contact and felt like I was treated like any other resident.

I had 2 weeks of fantastic 1 on 1 tutorting with Elebaires followed by internship in a public hospital in BsAs. I would definitely use them again, as well as recommend them to a friend.

Teaching English

Non-Profit (NGO)

Interns learn about the reality of life in Argentina and about the day-to-day operations of a non-profit in a developing country. They will increasingly take on more responsibility within the organization and learn about all areas of operation. Interns will get first hand experience learning about the culture, language, customs and traditions of Argentina as well as learn about the poverty disparity that exists within Buenos Aires.

Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required. You will get ample opportunity to improve and perfect your Spanish. The intern should be proficient in English.

Upon your arrival in Buenos Aires, we will discuss and establish a work plan for you, in accordance to your capacities and skills with the needs of the organization. Interns carry out a wide variety of tasks in different areas of the organization, which are described in further detail below:

Field Work: Field work consists of the development, organization and execution of the weekly, monthly, and annual programs, which requires travel to the various communities where we work and interaction with children. Interns will develop, plan, and coordinate activities and other volunteers. Additionally, interns will care for children present at the activity, provide supervision, monitor behavior, and provide discipline when necessary.

Volunteer management: Interns will be responsible for communication with current, future and previous volunteers, responding to inquiries about the NGO, volunteer orientation and training, management of the volunteer database, and coordination of volunteers in LIFE activities.

Institutional Development: This includes all those tasks that have to do with helping the organization to grow and function better, including but not limited to: development, organization and execution of fundraising campaigns, cost/benefit analysis of programs, creation of procedure manuals and other official documents, accounting, and research and development.

Communication: Those with the skills required to do so will use graphic design for our web page, flyers, posters and other material to promote the organization. Communication includes all tasks relating to marketing and publicity, as well as communication with volunteers, donors, local business, etc., trying to incorporate as many people as possible in our mission.

General Administration: Interns will be responsible for answering the telephone, responding to all incoming email, filing, organization of the office and kitchen, use of the fax machine and scanner, etc.

Interns must be flexible, dynamic, and adaptable to the challenge of working under pressure, at short notice, with limited resources. As a small NGO in a developing country, we face a number of obstacles on a daily basis (problems with transportation, lack of funds, lack of commitment of behalf of volunteers, inconsistency in the community centers), and interns must display initiative and have a pro-active attitude in overcoming these barriers. It is essential that interns be mature and responsible at all times and uphold their commitment to the organization and to the children we are serving. We depend heavily on our interns and without their generous service; we could not function as an organization. For this reason, we require dependable, hard-working individuals who will help us to grow and succeed as an institution
